ISTE Global Leadership forum Notes
Part of the global ideas forum in the leadership symposium
Group 1, Table 3 -
How can we leverage technology to ensure all students have access to high quality, rigorous learning experiences?”
What will the transformed system look like in the end?
It may depend on perspective...
Look like to who?
What does it mean when you say "system
Technology is inside not outside the 'system' - like 'air'
Students are integral 'architects' of curricula itself - represented as authentic view
less focus on micro-technical skills, but what they do with them at more macro levels - after using some tools/tech - what changed or occured as a result (competency aligned with intellectual skill)
An integrated curriculum where the soft skills (collaboration, co-operation, effort) are meshed with discipline learning
Education occurs outside and inside physical locations called 'schools'.
Learning can be conducted in both physical and virtual classrooms.
Learning occurs through a 'global perspective' to allow students to think and act accross cultured, borders of ideology. Learning dimensions : self, local, country, regional, global.
Religious and ideological contexts are considerations but not drivers of curricula
Infrastucture should extend to allow all students to participate
Age is not a barrier to using technology - inexperience and experienced work together
Graduation is based on a collection of evidence...not just memory type skills assessment...
Higher order thinking skills are emphasized...
Memory is not the most important aspect of measuring student acheivement...
Student will have choice in what they produce...
Teachers have a more diverse selection of strategies to engage students
What barriers need to be removed (in addition to having access to funding)?
Teachers are risk averse and reactive to change : behavioural intelligence
Much more public profiles of teachers as they publish materials or reviewed - accountability.
What steps must be taken to achieve the goals?
Acceptance that training teachers is as important as the technology itself
Schools less politically driven, and more need/social driven
Employment of teachers must include quality assurance that they can use teachers (Manditory qualification)
What metrics will you use to measuring progress?
Who will you cite as examples of progress toward this goal, demonstrating that the concepts have been tested
